Our Ethiopia Gara Agena coffee beans have a fruity-floral taste with notes of orange blossom, peach and black tea.
The green coffee beans come from the Gara Agena Washing Station in the Sidama region. Philip Weller visited the washing station in Ethiopia in 2024. It belongs to Testi Coffee, a company founded in 2009 by producer Faysel A. Yonis and his wife. They now operate over 20 washing stations in Ethiopia, producing coffees with complex aromas that delight us.
The beans are grown in the vicinity of the washing station at altitudes of approximately 1900 to 2300 meters and delivered for processing by 600 different farmers. The coffee trees grow alongside corn, grains, and bananas in the shade of native birbira, wanza, and acacia trees. The bean varieties are Ethiopian landraces, often referred to as heirloom, and are processed using the washed method. This leads to a clean, crisp flavor. Our green coffee comes via Plotcoffee, a Hamburg-based company specializing in sustainable specialty coffee.
