Tested Quality

We roast our coffee beans ourselves and fresh every week. We select the green coffee carefully. This means: Before we decide on a coffee, we test and taste it extensively. For this purpose, our import partners provide us with samples, so-called samples.

To ensure consistently high quality, we check all fresh roasts in weekly cuppings. This ensures that your coffee beans always taste the way they should.

More About the Bean

Processing Method

Wet-hull Processing

As in many other coffee-growing countries, Indonesia has a very humid climate. In addition, coffee grows very quickly on the islands and should therefore be sold on as quickly as possible. Many coffee producers in the Asian country therefore rely on a local processing method. Wet-hulling, known as giling basah in Indonesia, involves removing the coffee cherries from the bean immediately after harvesting. What remains is the mucilage layer and the parchment skin of the bean.

Coffee Plant

Coffee Plant

Coffee from Indonesia

In Indonesia, coffee is grown since the late 16th Century. The seeds were brought by the Dutch colonial powers from Yemen to the country, which they controlled until the Second World War. Outside of Ethiopia and the Arab world, Indonesia was the first country to cultivate coffee on a large scale. After the Second World War, Indonesia gained independence and many coffee plantations were subsequently nationalized. Today, most coffee beans that originate from the fourth largest export nation for green coffee are cultivated on small farms with around 1 hectare of land.
