Tested Quality

We roast our coffee beans ourselves and fresh every week. We select the green coffee carefully. This means: Before we decide on a coffee, we test and taste it extensively. For this purpose, our import partners provide us with samples, so-called samples.

To ensure consistently high quality, we check all fresh roasts in weekly cuppings. This ensures that your coffee beans always taste the way they should.

Andrej Arnold

More About the Bean

Processing Method

Honey Process

Honey processing works in a similar way to pulped-natural processing. After the pulp has been separated from the coffee bean in a depulper, the beans are dried. The difference is that in honey processing, more pulp is left on the bean as it dries.

A distinction is made here between the types white honey, which is most similar to pulped natural, yellow honey, orange honey, red honey and black honey. The darker the color designation, the more pulp remains on the bean while drying.

In terms of taste, sweetness and fruitiness increase the more pulp remains on the drying bean. The name Honey is derived from the slippery-sweet, yellowish layer on the coffee bean that covers it.

Coffee Plant

Ethiopian Landraces

A plant variety that has adapted very well to its environmental conditions over many years is called a landrace. In the coffee context, most landraces are found in the forests of Ethiopia, the country of origin of the coffee plant. The Arabica varieties from the country are generally characterized by a very high taste quality and lower yields. At the same time, they are more tolerant to diseases than many other Arabica varieties such as the widespread Bourbon and Typica varieties. The term Heirloom is also often used to describe these strains.

Coffee Plant

Coffee from Costa Rica

Coffee cultivation plays a major economic role for Costa Rica, both historically and currently. The coffee plant was already the most profitable crop in the early 19th century, surpassing cocoa, tobacco and sugar. Thanks to exports, important investments could be made in the country's infrastructure. Since 2012, Costa Rica has also grown coffee from the variety Geisha which we explain in our article on coffee varieties. It comes from the Ethiopian landraces and is known for its outstanding taste potential and is in demand worldwide. With Dylan Aguilera, we have a direct contact to the origin. We got to know him at the World of Coffee fair in Athens in 2023.
