Our most caffeinated coffee blend, Marcello Strong, consists of two sustainable organic coffees and impresses with a full-bodied flavour, an exuberant crema and notes of dark chocolate and caramel. The Marcello Strong is our interpretation of an Italian roast, i.e. very dark roasted.
The main role is played by a Robusta from India, which provides plenty of caffeine and a long-lasting, frothy crema. A naturally processed Arabica from Brazil sets the fine accents of the roast blend. The Ekata Community in India produces the Robusta, which makes up 70% of our Strong. We source the organic green coffee beans from Indie Roasters in Bielefeld, Germany, who have been buying directly from the cooperative for many years. During their regular visits to India, they get an idea of the work on the certified organic farms and select the coffees. In addition to coffee fields, the farms also grow spices such as cloves, cardamom, pepper and cinnamon. This prevents monoculture and protects the soil. This Robusta grows at an altitude of around 800 metres and provides the strong body and great crema of our coffee blend.
Another 30 % of our blend is made up of Brazilian Dutra. This comes from the Matas de Minas region, which is known for its coffee cultivation. The Dutra family is now the second generation to run their farms. Walter and Ednilson Dutra have invested a lot of time and money in modernising the farms. They sell their certified organic coffees worldwide and regularly take part in competitions. The lot that we bought for our Marcello Strong is naturally processed, has a medium body and flavours of roasted nuts.
